There’s something about hitting the road before the sun comes up that sets the tone for everything that follows. On Sunday, May 3rd, at 6:30 AM, we pulled out with purpose; horses loaded, minds focused, and another chapter of the journey ahead of us.

Our first stop was Whitesboro, Texas, where we dropped off Elvis with Nathan Piper. From there, we linked up with Reed Knutson with Two Ravens foundation, made a stop to drop Josie off at his place to rest and stretch, and then slowed things down just enough to grab dinner and spend the night with his family. That time around a table, away from the road is just as important as anything else. It’s where relationships get built.

Morning came early. 5:00 AM early.

We were back on the road headed to Stephenville, Texas, to meet up with Alejandro Banuelos. The kind of morning that reminds you why you do this; cool air, quiet roads, and the anticipation of getting in the saddle. We spent the morning riding cutting horses with Alejandro and his fiancé, sharpening skills and soaking in the experience. There’s nothing quite like working good horses with good people.

Afterward, we dropped Josie off with Alejandro, knowing she was in the right place, and kept pushing forward. Next stop: Deary Performance Horses. We spent the afternoon there, getting quality time in; learning, observing, and appreciating the level of excellence that operation runs on. Places like that don’t just happen; they’re built with discipline, passion, and consistency.

By around 5:00 PM, it was time to turn toward home. Baton Rouge was calling, and the miles ahead gave us time to reflect on everything packed into such a short trip.

This wasn’t just a haul to Texas. It was about connection. It was about horses. It was about the kind of brotherhood that doesn’t need explaining, just showing up, putting in the work, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

Trips like this remind you: it’s not just about where you’re going, it’s about who you’re riding with along the way.
